Blog Assignment #3

Paragraph from my memo: "Students and staff members of LaGuardia Community College have to “dance” with vehicles each time they want to cross the street. They are put into danger all the time. We know that we are close by the Queensboro Bridge which is the reason of the heavy traffic coming out of Manhattan, but there are solutions which can make LaGuardia safer and more pleasant place to learn. We’ve managed to allocate $100,000 to improve safety around school campus and we found a couple of solutions to get rid of the danger around the school. Those can be applied separately although, we encourage applying all of them since we are talking about safety of young people and that all of the solutions should fit into our budget."

This is a paragraph chosen from my memo assignment that i have done for technical writing class. If you happened not to notice what the scenario is, i wrote about safety on LaGuardia campus, mainly about the traffic problems and danger that we face everyday when going from class to class. I have picked this topic because out of the three scenarios we had to choose from this one was an actual problem and it is important that we do as much as we can to fix it since it is about everyone's safety and as we all know the recent accident took a high school student's life.
To solve the traffic problem i've suggested to use pedestrian islands. During the conversation about this problem we had in class nobody came up with this idea. I think it is a great method of getting rid of that problem because it is cheap, quick to be put in place, and probably the most effective out of all my solutions i've written about in my memo. That was the first thing that popped into my head. There was nothing else that would inspire me to come up with that solution.
The writing process was pretty simple, i have organized my information into sections, (introduction, explanation of the problem, solution #1, solution #2, solution#3, conclusion). Review process was only about rereading the entire memo and search for grammar errors etc.

Blog Assignment #2

Rapid Prototyping / History / Prototyping Technologies
Rapid prototyping is a real game changer in the world of invention and creating new machines or products.
the question might be "what is rapid prototyping?". It is a method of  additive manufacturing technology. It is a very useful , especially in today's world in which a lot of people try to come up with new products but do not have a lot of money to get their prototypes build by big companies. The machines use a virtual design from a computer. then the machine processes the information, and then depending on the type of the method it starts to create the designed object in three dimensions. there are a couple of possible ways of rapid prototyping.

Selective laser Sintering (SLS):
this type of prototyping uses a powerful laser which melts together small particles of materials (plastic, metal etc.) which in effect produce a designed object.

Fused Deposition Modeling (FMD):
It also uses an additive manufacturing technology. It uses a laser which builds the object layer by layer.

Laminated Object Manufacturing (LOM):
In this method a sheet of a material is being cut by a knife of a laser beam and glued lo previous layer of already cut out material to form a designed prototype.

3D Printing:
Involves a various use of materials, (mostly plastic) which is melted and put through a nozzle, the object is being build by layers, this is so far the most affordable method of rapid prototyping.

Rapid prototyping is the next big thing in the technology world. Many different ways of use and equipment prices that are pretty realistic for a lot of us will allow much faster technological progress everywhere.

  • The article is professional. The author does not bring in a person into the article, there is no "I" or "We".
  • there is no actual argument in the article.
  • The impact of Rapid Prototyping will be, more accessible and more affordable way to manufacture new devices, parts, or prototypes of new inventions.
  • Based  on this blog it seems that the blogger, posts on his blog to inform people of new technological methods of doing things. It might also help the person keep track of the news in the tech-world.
  • I major in mechanical engineering, this might help me a lot because i like to design new stuff which would have to be machine made, because those make the product more perfect(I already have a couple of projects which I'd love to continue to work on them using for example a 3D printer).

Welcome To My Blog!

Hello, My name is Krzysztof Kalicki. I live in Queens and I'm a student at LaGuardia Community college. I major in mechanical engineering, and that is who i want to be when i finish college. I enjoy technology, I'm very interested in how things work or how they are made. When it comes to technology I'm usually interested in electronic devices or mechanics such as cars. I'm pretty sure there are some people at LaGuardia that would share my interests in technology, because a lot of young people do that and it's great since technology improves so quickly in today's world. Personally i do not enjoy reading and writing, i find it too boring. If i get to read something it would most likely be a car or a technology magazine. My regular writing consists of home works, class notes and random notes i take at home.
